After twenty years as a cinematographer and director for film and television, I've come back to where I began: the still photograph. I'm building this portfolio the way the work itself is made: deliberately, with care, and in collaboration.
Porch Light Studio is the work of Paul J. Cinematography and figure work are one discipline: light, framing, and a subject at ease. A director's whole profession is making people comfortable enough to perform.
He does not work alone. Nastassia, his model and muse, is part of the studio: she helps schedule shoots, assists on set, and advises on wardrobe and makeup.
The studio's name states its standard: a porch light is the one you leave on so someone gets home safely.

TF and studio-paid castings trade on publication, so they run Selected or Full. Commissioned bookings, where you hire the studio, can sit anywhere on the ladder, including fully Private.
Photo ID and a signed release are kept for every session. It protects us both.
Direction is verbal. Wardrobe adjustments are yours to make; if a hand is ever needed, it is asked for first.
Closed set, essential crew only, no phones. Bring a chaperone to any shoot; they are always welcome.
Every inquiry receives a written reply.
The Spaces
Shoots happen in rented studios and houses like these, scouted in advance and cleared with their owners for exactly this kind of work. The specific location is named in your written plan before the day.
Fair questions
What is sensual portraiture?
Portraiture that takes intimacy seriously. It lives between a classic portrait and a fine art nude: images built on light, gesture, and the quiet awareness between the subject and the camera. The point is presence, not exposure; what a frame withholds does as much work as what it shows.
Do you only shoot nude or topless?
No. Nudity is one register of this work and never a requirement. A sensual image can be fully clothed: a bare shoulder, fabric where it falls, a look held a beat longer than expected. What makes an image sensual is intention and atmosphere, not the amount of skin. If that distinction interests you, we will work well together.
Do you only work in black and white?
No, and it is the house preference. Monochrome reduces a photograph to light and form, which suits this work, so much of it is made that way. Color is used when the image asks for it, and like everything else, the choice is agreed in the written plan.
What if I change my mind mid-shoot?
Then we change the shoot. Any pose can be declined, any look can be cut, and we can stop entirely. Frames you veto at review are deleted in front of you.
Who sees the images before they are published?
You do. Low-resolution previews come to you for written approval before anything is posted anywhere.
Can images come down later?
On the web and social, yes: ask, and they are removed in good faith. Prints already sold cannot be recalled, and the release says so honestly.
Do I need experience?
No. Posing is guided from the first frame.
